Congratulations to Carlos Díaz-Marín for being selected as a Martin Sustainability Fellow! With the support of a Martin Fellowship, Carlos is working on the rational design of novel polymer-salt composites capable of capturing large amount of water from the air. In his work, Carlos explores the fundamental physics of these materials, including energy/fluid transport processes to chemical degradation and he leverages these insights towards the design of low-cost, high-performance materials. These materials can contribute significantly to sustainability efforts by enabling ubiquitous, decentralized water production from the atmosphere and low-grade thermal energy storage for decarbonized air conditioning.
